Hunan Zhangjiajie: spectacular mountains

Zhangjiajie panorama

Zhangjiajie belongs to the top 10 of the world’s most spectacular mountain landscapes. Hundreds of peaks and thousands of karst pinnacles make it an impressive sight. Not so long ago, this was a remote land known mainly to three minority peoples: Tujia, Miao and Bai. Nowadays more than 20 million visitors annually come to the park. It is said that this amazing landscape was the inspiration for the movie “Avatar” the floating mountain island world of the blue creatures. It’s easy to see why, especially when the early morning mist comes floating in.

Zhangjiajie can be included in any kind of China trip. We would recommend at least 2 days to explore this huge area. For people who want to make a different trip than what most people do in China, we can recommend our in depth Hunan mountain and Dong minority trip which starts with spectacular mountains landscapes, takes you back in time to old villages and ends with the low hillside ricepaddies and wooden wind- and rainbridges of the Dong people.
